Planting Seeds for the Future
53Flowers and Butterflies
Preserving the Past
Have you heard a child say"What's a typewriter?" It will make you realize how far this world has progressed. We are bombarded monthly with new electronic gadgets.
Can you imagine in the future , when a child might say "What's a garden?" or "What's a wildflower?"
You can do your part now to preserve the past by planting for the future. Find a little spot of ground and plant wildflowers and plants that are native to your area.
New buildings, shopping centers and highways are slowly crowding out the natural habitats for wild life and natural wild flower growth.
Imagine a child of the future seeing nothing but concrete and black top pavement.
Of course, the child could go turn on one of his/her electronic gadgets and know exactly what a sunflower or a black eyed susan looks like, but that would in no way compare to being able to see, touch, and feel the real thing.
If everyone could plant a little patch of future happiness it might make the future brighter for the generations to come.
Without the seeds and nectars of wild plants, the wild life will diminish. Birds, butterflies, caterpillars and more all depend on plant life, berry bushes etc. for survival. If all this is gone they will slowly disappear.
You don't have to be a " nature lover" to see that the native wildlife has diminished greatly. As more things are built to keep everyone's purses full, the natural habitats get moved further and further away. That's when you hear reports of wild animals coming into stores and homes,it's because they have no where else to go.
But, if each of us was able to create and maintain a little plot of ground by planting native grasses and wildflowers, it would go a long way towards preserving the past for the future.
Plant annuals and perennials that are native to your area and they'll keep growing every year.
Help the children of the future generations to be able to witness spring coming to life after it's long winter nap.

I totally agree. You're right that each of us has to contribute to (re)building a future for our children. Fortunately, I don't think, however, that a child should ever ask the question you posed in the beginning, because green living and eco-solutions are becoming hot topics. Otherwise, your hub is wolderfully crafted! Thanks so much. :)
